I finally figured out what would be worthy of my 50th year on this earth, Ironman Wales. Ironman Wales is one of the most difficult Ironman events in the world. There’s 8000′ of climbing over 110 miles on the bike course and 1600′ over 26 miles on the run. To top it off once you exit the swim you have to run up from the beach to the center of town to reach transition 1. (take a look at the video below of the athletes running up towards transition one after the 2.4mile swim!)
Training begins now, I plan on running in multiple running events this winter/spring while working on swimming during the dark hours as well. I’ll also be logging miles and miles on the bike trainer while dreaming spring. I’ll be competing multiple sprint and olympic distance events and Ironman 70.3 Coeur d’Alene at the end of June. The 70.3 will be my tune up for Wales. Then a couple of months after Coeur d’Alene we’ll fly over to Wales for the big race! After the race we’re planning on celebrating a big anniversary for a week in the UK. 2017 is going to be an interesting year!
