Even though I’m focusing on Oregon’s highest 100 peaks I never pass up a chance to summit a unique Oregon peak and Monument rock is definitely unique. Monument rock is located less than a mile from Bullrun Rock number 99 on the list so after I watched the sunrise on Bullrun I quickly hiked over to Monument Rock. Monument rock has a rock cairn sitting on top of the peak that’s at least 10′ tall and about 5′ wide and can be seen from miles away. The peak is one of three that form a triangle on top of a large summit plateau. From the summit of Monument rock I quickly hiked back to the car and drove close to Lookout Mountain which is located to the west of Bullrun Rock and Monument Rock. The road leading up to the summit of Lookout is a four wheel drive road and I was in a passenger car so I hiked up the road leading to the summit to complete a three peak Friday. 46 down 54 to go!
